Thursday 6 : first day

undefinedThis Thursday, first day of race: program respected with six rounds by 15 at 18 knots of wind slowing down at the end of the day. 

The competition is organized as a championship: 4 groups (A,B,C,D) of six crews who will face each other to obtain a general classification. The first 12 will meet in final this week-end. 

Today, we programmed 3 rounds of 2 races, each crew participated to 2 races, and some of them did 4. 
The first race started at 10.47 A.M in the “grande rade”of Cherbourg. Centrale Nantes arrived first followed by Politecnica Madrid and UTT Troyes. Race 1-2 started at 11.45 AM, everybody is in the starting block…
 …once more Centrale Nantes won the race, before ICAM and Madrid. 

For the second round, start at 1.35 PM, 15 knots, wind direction : 280°. It’s getting cold… Two individual false starts (Alma Mater Bologne and STAPS Caen) who will not come back to the line, and will be disqualified (a pity for the Italian crew who finished the race in second position). UBS Lorient won, followed by Ensieta Brest and ASUN Nantes.
2.40 PM, start of the 2.2 race, one false start was called but directly corrected, withdrawal of Cusmilano 1 after having their sail damaged. Some incidents in this race: slightly injured person... and a student at the top of the mast to help the sail getting down! ASUN Nantes finished first, INSA Rouen second, Alma Mater Bologna third.
The third round starts at 3.58 PM, with more waves, the weather is more and more cold. Everybody is on the line, call to order for all the boats! UBS Lorient wins the first race, just before the famous Alma Mater Bologna and Politecnica Madrid. The same three crews also win the second race : Bologna first, Lorient second, Madrid after.
To finish, we will remember a good organization perfectly respected, stylistic figures with the spinnaker, some collisions and few slightly damages.
Politecnica Madrid, Alma Mater Bologna, Centrale Nantes and ASUN Nantes, USB Lorient got the first places in the general table, in front of the other teams.

Tomorrow: the three last rounds will take place, though each team will have met everybody before the final.
For the moment, aperitif, diner, the “TV news” of the day in the Cherbourg Yacht Club.
