Saturday 8 : Round regattas...

GOLD ROUND

The first to run are the Gold Round crews : two windward-leeward races are scheduled. At 9.30 AM the wind is shifty around 220° and between 10 and 15 knots under a « Brittany drizzle »...
The first start is called at 10.31 AM. There's one individual call for UTC Voile Compiègne who comes back to the line. Some bright intervals on the race and UBS Lorient dominates and imposes its rhythm. Actually they leads since the first buoy and wins the first race. Politecnica Madrid, really fit today arrives 2nd and INSA Rouen is 3rd.
AS Université Nantes (10th) damages its boom articulation. The race committee decides to switch the boat : the crew is brought back to ground and comes back a quarter of hour later with a spare boat.

The wind rises up to 18 knots, the 2nd race is launched at noon. Two individual calls for Madrid and STAPS Caen who go on. At the leeward buoy UBS Lorient is 1st, followed by the Spanish team, Bologna and Centrale Nantes 1. The wind keeps on strengthening, the committee decides to carry on with the Silver Round. The crew switching is ready on ground.
End of the second race of the Gold Round : Politecnica Madrid arrives 1st but may be disqualified because of a false start, UBS Lorient is 2nd, Alma Mater Bologna is 3rd, INSA Rouen 2 is 4th.
Results of the Gold Round : UBS Lorient, last year's winner ranks 1st after two victories, whereas its main rivals AS Université Nantes and Centrale Nantes 1 have had difficulties this morning. We can note the good runs and the regularity of Bologna, Madrid and INSA Rouen 2.

SILVER ROUND
13 PM : start of the Silver Round. A correct start, with less intensity than the Gold Round's... The rain has stopped and the sky is low.
After the first race, IPC Nautisme Cherbourg leads, followed by Centrale Nantes 2 and EIC Cherbourg. The two local crews keep their rank whereas UTT Troyes squeezes in the 2nd position.
The wind rises up again with showers so the Committee imposes a reef in the mainsail, the use of the solent and no spinnaker.
2.25 PM : start of the second Silver race. No call, it seem like this Round’s crews are less “au taquet” (= full throttle) on the line… the boats sail under a 20 knots wind. IPC Nautisme Cherbourg is widely leader. Following : Karlsruhe is 2nd, UTT Troyes is 3rd, and CUS Milano ranks 4th ; the race Committee protests against an entrant for “serious damage caused to another boat leading to withdrawal of the crew”.
undefinedThe last race is launched after 3PM. Some sunbeams and the dolphin which has moved in the harbour since the beginning of the year appears and comes to play with the boats : he seems to particularly appreciate the starts. Almost no surprises during this 3rd race, same crews on the podium! IPC Nautisme ranks 1st, UTT Troyes 2nd, Karlsruhe 3rd, and CUS Milano 4th.
The Silver Round, dominated by Cherbourg’s IPC Nautisme ends today. Sunday morning 2 races will be runned by the Gold Round before the Price Giving Ceremony at 4 PM in the Yacht Club.
